It is a rarity these days to find people who will stay in one organization for 39+ years. But that is what Evangeline Furiscal has done. Known as Vangie, she is the longest staying employee of Kaisahang Buhay Foundation, Inc. (KBF). She started working with KBF when the foundation was 2 years old in 1977, then known as Holt Philippines. She started out as a young secretary of 21 yrs. old, working for the first Executive Director, Emmet K. Turner. Vangie has worked through 5 Executive Directors starting from a secretarial position, then as Program Assistant and at present, is the Administrative Officer.
In her early days with KBF, Mr. Turner gave Vangie a Bible with an inscription which deeply inspired her to work in the field of child welfare. She was deeply moved by adoptive parents eagerly meeting their adopted children for the very first time, and was witness to the joy and blessings of adoption.
By June 2017, Vangie would have worked at KBF for 40 years. She has helped send her nieces through school. She never married and instead dedicated her life working for KBF. She is very proud of the foundation, being the pioneer NGO at Inter-country & Domestic adoption. Even if she now commutes daily for 3 hrs, taking 4 rides to and from Cavite, Vangie continues to serve in the only work she has ever known. She found purpose in her work, dedicating it as her service to the Lord.
